What is this Scleroderma

The name of this disease derives the Greek words sclero and derma, which means hardened skin. In this disease, the skin becomes hard and shiny. This disease occurs 4 times more in women than in men. Women skin tissues get effects from this disease as it makes them hard. This is the first symptom of scleroderma.

What is the reason for this disease

There is no cure for scleroderma as no one knows the cause of this disease. It is an autoimmune disease in which one’s immune system starts functioning against the body.

There are two types of scleroderma. Localized and dispersed means of limited or systemic scleroderma. In limited scleroderma, the disease affects the inner cells of the skin. There may be Uveitis in the eye and arthritis in the joints. The Skin gets hardened and initially, there may be red or violet line around the scars that indicates inflammation. In systemic scleroderma, the process extends far apart and the internal organs like the heart, lungs, kidneys, and gastrointestinal tract are also affected in addition to its skin. Scleroderma is an uncommon disease. It is found in 3 people out of a hundred thousand.

What is the treatment of scleroderma

It is important to know first that it is a chronic skin disease. Our body immune system decomposes this disease in a few years but it can happen again. There is no medicine for this disease. Research is underway for the drug. In this disease, exercise is necessary to maintain joint and lung function.

Things to keep in mind while taking care in scleroderma

  • People with scleroderma feel tired.
  • Women should take regular medicines, diet and have proper exercise routine daily.
  • If women are taking medication during pregnancy, then they should be aware of the side effects of the medicines.
  • Massaging the hard skin with cream makes the skin soft.
  • The patient can have a balanced diet of his/her choice. A balanced diet should include vitamins, protein, and calcium in the desired extent.
